Chihana: It is to do with campaign

Youth and Sports Minister Enoch Chihana has explained his absence from public functions, saying campaign has taken its toll on him.

Among important sports functions,Chihana has missed include the TNM Super League prize presentation and launch, Airtel Money Netball sponsorship launch and national netball tournament, President Joyce Banda’s audience with Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers as well as the Kamuzu Stadium gathering where the President presented the K25 million (about $60 000) donations to the two teams.

But Chihana, who is aspiring to retain his Rumphi Central Constituency parliamentary seat, on Wednesdaycleared the mist, saying he is busy campaigning.

“It is all to do with the campaign. Actually, right now I am in my constituency.

“Instead, I have been delegating my PS,” he said.

While Carlsberg Malawi Limited senior brands manager (alcoholics) Twikale Chirwa said the minister is expected to attend the Flames sponsorship agreement signing ceremony today in Blantyre, Chihana himself was not certain, saying: “I would say it’s 50-50 as at now.”
